Holkof™ Bioreactor

HolKof™ Bioreactor is an energy-efficient treatment method with control over flow and circulation. The solution is mobile, energy-saving, and compact.

Tailored Solutions

HolKof™ – The bioreactor’s design and capacity can be customized according to the customer’s specifications and needs. In its standard version, the bioreactor has a 6m³ biofilm carrier that, if the biofilm were to be unfolded, provides over 1800m² of active surface area. When installing the HolKof™ Bioreactor, there is also the option to sign a service agreement. This is an easy way to ensure functionality and energy efficiency. Cleaning, inspection, and adjustments are included in the basic agreement. Together, we tailor the agreement’s scope according to the customer’s requirements and needs.

HolKof™ Bioreactor is an energy-efficient treatment method with control over flow and circulation. The solution is mobile, energy-saving, and compact. It can be adapted to specific environments, and its cost-effectiveness, compared to an SBR system, makes it an economically favorable alternative.

The system was primarily developed to reduce ammonium, a significant issue for landfill operators and for addressing eutrophication in nature. Ammonium is oxidized on the biofilm surface to nitrate, which moves deeper into the biofilm and is used as an electron acceptor, then reduced to nitrogen. BOD is consumed during denitrification and also at the biofilm surface. Phosphorus and redox metals are oxidized and sedimented in the sludge.

Proven Treatment Process

The HolKof™ Bioreactor is a patented bioreactor based on the mammoth pump and biofilm principle. It is designed for efficient aerobic and anaerobic breakdown of organic material (BOD), reduction of nitrogen compounds, oxidation of redox metals, and precipitation of phosphate. The design also allows the reactor to be used for removing substances such as chlorate. The bioreactor uses microorganisms, and by adapting and creating favorable operating conditions, suitable microorganisms can be introduced with the aim to:
