Evaluation After Installation of Bioreactors and Aerators in the Härradsudden Landfill Leachate Ponds

Before the measures were implemented, there were only two aerators in the aerated pond, and the leachate was black, foul-smelling, and in need of treatment.

In May 2019, three aerators were installed in the pre-pond, and an additional two aerators along with a bioreactor were added to the aerated pond. In March 2020, two more bioreactors were installed, though their effects are not included in the diagrams below since full impact can only be measured after one month of operation. During the summer, floating barriers were also installed in the aerated pond to force the water through the section where the three bioreactors are located.

Below is an evaluation of the parameters expected to be reduced with the aerators and bioreactor. The diagrams show analysis results from sampling point L1 (after the pre-pond) and L2 (after the aerated pond). Unfortunately, the reduction per parameter cannot be displayed since, at this time, we lacked analysis values for the incoming water to the pre-pond. Therefore, the diagrams show more of a trend in the analysis values before and after the measures were taken.
