Emergency Measures to Save a Lake in Södermanland Following Wastewater Discharge
The lake is 5.9 meters deep, has a surface area of 0.04 square kilometers, and is located 16 meters above sea level. It is home to perch and roach, as well as two species of freshwater mussels: the common pond mussel and the swan mussel.
The discharge occurred earlier this fall, leading to a foul odor in the area and elevated levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and bacteria in the water, according to test results. The municipality issued a warning against swimming in the lake or allowing dogs to enter the water for the next six months.
To oxygenate the lake, four AirTURBO RV2 units from Eden Aquatech were installed as an “initial emergency measure,” according to the municipality. Water samples will be taken regularly. The diagram shows specific data from the treatment project. Within one month, the oxygen levels in the lake more than quintupled.
