Customer’s Challenge
Vågevatnet, Møre og Romsdal
Vågevatnet is a small lake influenced by saltwater, with oxygen-depleted bottom water, periodic releases of hydrogen sulfide gas into the surroundings, and high algal growth. The main cause of these conditions is a strong stratification between the heavy saltwater at the bottom and the lighter freshwater at the surface.
The most effective measure to improve these conditions would be to convert Vågevatnet into a typical freshwater lake. By constructing a threshold or dam at the outlet, saltwater intrusion can be prevented, while the existing saltwater can be drained through a pipe.
Alternatively, the bottom water could be oxygenated through air bubbling or oxygen injection, or freshwater could be added to make it lighter, facilitating more frequent water exchange.
The Solution
After an inspection and review of the report, the customer chose Eden Aquatech’s solution. Three AirTURBO RV2 units were strategically placed approximately 40 meters apart to ensure optimal oxygen distribution in the lake’s deep zone.
