Surface Water Project Nynäshamn

Condensation Issues – Bad Odor Resolved with Oxygenation

NyNäshamn News

The unpleasant odor that previously spread from Svandammen in Nynäshamn has been mitigated with the help of two aeration systems from Eden Aquatech, which oxygenate the water. Nynäshamn Municipality has planned additional measures to further increase oxygen levels and improve the pond’s environment.

Over the past week, many have noticed an intense foul smell around Svandammsparken in Nynäshamn. The water in the pond appears greenish and murky, with several dead fish floating on the surface. Algae have accumulated along the edges.

An Exemplary Effort for Svandammen

It is a true joy to see all the happy birds in Svandammen now. The municipality has made an exemplary effort by oxygenating the pond, ensuring a fresh water supply from the harbor, and cleaning the river all the way to Filips Holme. This is greatly appreciated by both two-legged and four-legged residents. Now, we hope that last summer’s disaster does not repeat itself. Svandammsparken is a fantastic oasis, with Gösta’s Park, the winding river, open spaces for schoolchildren, and the pond with its diverse birdlife. And the fish, which I hope will return—they help keep the aquatic plants in check. I also wish that everyone who enjoys the park takes responsibility for their waste. Plastic ends up in the pond and flows out to the sea. Cigarette butts release toxins, heavy metals, and plastic filters. What doesn’t end up in your lungs goes into the soil, then into the pond, and eventually into the ocean. The issue is not a lack of trash bins—it’s a lack of respect for animals and nature. Everything is connected.
